The aircraft matters as much as the airline
This came out of the research rather than being the point of it. 13 of the 31 carriers we have verified fly a materially different cabin depending on the airframe. On 8 of those the difference is whether you get direct aisle access at all; on the other 5 it is the privacy door, which is a real difference and a much smaller one.
Lufthansa
A350-900 (Allegris Business Class Suite) scores 10/10 on seat. 747-8 / A330-300 (legacy) scores 5/10. This record describes a legacy paired-seat configuration. The aircraft family alone does not establish the cabin or seat on a particular booking; check the flight-specific seat map.
British Airways
A350-1000 / 787-10 / 777 (Club Suite) scores 10/10 on seat. 787-8 / some 787-9 (old Club World) scores 5/10. The outgoing yin-yang cabin: eight seats abreast, half of them rear-facing, and window seats requiring a climb over a stranger. A materially worse product at the same fare.
KLM
777-200ER / 777-300ER (sliding-door World Business Class) scores 10/10 on seat. A330-200 / A330-300 scores 5/10. 2-2-2 lie-flat: the window seat requires stepping over a neighbor.
Royal Jordanian
787-9 scores 10/10 on seat. 787-8 (Crown Class) scores 5/10. Collins Diamond, 24 seats, the cabin the 787-9 is replacing.
TAP Air Portugal
A330-900neo scores 8/10 on seat. A321LR scores 5/10. Solo throne seats in the 1-1 rows; the 2-2 rows require stepping over a neighbor.
Turkish Airlines
787-9 / A350-900 scores 8/10 on seat. 777-300ER (legacy) scores 5/10. The cabin the retrofit is replacing, on the aircraft Turkish flies most from the US.
Austrian
787-9 scores 8/10 on seat. 777-200ER scores 5/10. Thompson Vantage in alternating 1-2-1 and 2-2-2 rows. Recorded as no direct aisle access because the field means every seat, and here it is row-dependent.
Edelweiss Air
A350-900 scores 8/10 on seat. A340-300 scores 5/10. Sogerma Solstys in an alternating 1-2-1 / 2-2-1 stagger. Recorded as no direct aisle access because the field means every seat.
Delta
A350 / A330-900 (Delta One Suite) scores 10/10 on seat. 767-300ER scores 8/10. Same 1-2-1 lie-flat, no privacy door.
Virgin Atlantic
A330neo (Upper Class Suite) scores 10/10 on seat. A350-1000 / 787-9 scores 8/10. Still 1-2-1 with direct aisle access, but no closing door: the A350 uses a privacy panel and an 82-inch bed, the 787-9 an older herringbone with manual bed conversion.
Iberia
A350 Next (Recaro CL6720) scores 10/10 on seat. A330 / standard A350 (Stelia Solstys) scores 8/10. Same 1-2-1 lie-flat layout, no closing door.
American
787-9P (Flagship Suite) scores 10/10 on seat. 777-300ER / 787 (Flagship Business) scores 8/10. Reverse herringbone, direct aisle access from every seat, no privacy door.

A seat score measures bed, aisle access and privacy door; it does not establish the best overall trip. 13 of our 31 documented carriers have different seat scores across recorded aircraft. - Why are only some airlines compared here?
- Each pair has a documented business cabin for both airlines and some fare observations. That produces 465 comparisons, but only 276 have matched business fares. The others can compare cabin specifications; they cannot establish a business fare winner. No matched fare does not mean the airlines never compete.
- Are the fares current, and do they guarantee the seat shown?
- No. These fares were observed August 31 – September 1, 2026 for travel November 8–14, 2026. The fare records include the cabin and routing but not the aircraft or ticket restrictions. Cabin specifications were checked separately and carry their own dates. Confirm current prices and the seat map on every segment before booking.
