How this site makes money

The short version

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you sign up or buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That commission never changes what we recommend, or the order we recommend it in.

Where the money actually comes from

Deal-alert subscriptions. This is the main one. We link to Going, a flight deal alert service, through an affiliate program. There is a free tier and there are paid tiers; the paid tiers pay us considerably more. We mention the free tier everywhere, including inside boxes that pitch a paid tier, because for most readers the free tier is the right starting point.

Consulting. Flight planning, points strategy, and award booking, sold directly at published prices. No commission involved, you are paying us for the work.

Digital products. Guides and templates sold directly.

Airlines. No airline has paid for coverage, sponsored a review, or seen one before publication. Where an airline affiliate program exists and we join one, it will be listed here.

The rules we hold ourselves to

• A recommendation is never influenced by what it pays. If the better answer for you earns us nothing, the better answer is what you get.
• Paid tiers of anything are pitched only where the reader is plausibly ready for them. A business-class cabin review can honestly mention a premium-cabin alert tier. A beginner explainer cannot.
• Every affiliate link carries rel=“sponsored nofollow”, so search engines can see it for what it is.
• Every page carrying affiliate links says so at the top, before the content, not in a footer you have to look for.
• If a press seat or a comped flight is ever accepted, in order to review a cabin that would otherwise be Researched, it will be disclosed in the body of that review.

Why we are telling you this

Because a flight recommendation is only worth anything if you know what is behind it. The review method is published for the same reason.
