Lufthansa Business Class Review: Choose the Seat, Then Price the Trip

Lufthansa business is worth considering when the specific seat, itinerary and total price fit your trip. Start with the seat category: an Allegris Suite, an Allegris Classic seat and a legacy paired seat are different purchases. A photograph of a suite does not establish what your ticket includes.

I have flown Lufthansa business class on a Europe route. That supports the Flown label; it does not establish that I flew Allegris. The distinctions below come from Lufthansa's published product descriptions, checked October 13, 2026, and our separately dated fare observations. Meals, crew service and disruption handling are not scored from those sources.

Allegris is a family of seats

Lufthansa's Allegris Business Class description distinguishes the front-row Business Class Suite from Classic, Privacy, Extra Space and Extra Long Bed seats. The Suite has a door. Direct aisle access is a broader Allegris feature; a door is not.

Choose the feature before the label. If uninterrupted aisle access and a flat bed meet your needs, paying extra for a door may add little to your trip. If privacy is the reason for upgrading, check that the available seat is the Suite itself. A seat called Privacy is not automatically an enclosed suite.

Lufthansa also publishes seat-reservation categories and charges. It lists free selection for an Allegris Classic seat and separate pricing for other categories, with terms that depend on the category and booking. Compare the amount due for your actual selection. Verify the currency at checkout. “Same cabin” does not establish the same total cost.

The door-equipped record above describes the Allegris Business Class Suite. The other record describes a legacy paired-seat configuration. They show a meaningful difference in aisle access and privacy, but they do not inventory every Lufthansa seat or identify the aircraft attached to a fare in our grid.

The Seat figure refers to the documented Suite. Value comes from Lufthansa's historical business fares across its observed routes, which were not tied to that Suite. Treat these as separate pieces of evidence, not a finding that a Suite was available at the quoted fare. The other product fields retain their own verification dates.

A legacy flat bed can still be a useful purchase. On a paired layout, inspect whether your seat reaches the aisle without crossing your neighbor's space. A couple may make a different choice from a solo traveler. Neither needs to reject an acceptable itinerary solely because another cabin has a newer design.

Confirm the actual flight before paying

Check both directions independently. The itinerary should identify the operating airline and flight number; its seat map and cabin description should establish the available configuration. An A350, 787 or 747 family name is not a substitute for that check, and a planned fleet retrofit does not prove that your departure has been converted.

On a connecting ticket, verify that the overnight transatlantic segment is in business. A business label on the short European flight does not establish a bed across the Atlantic.

Use this sequence before checkout:

1. Open the seat map for the exact flight and date.
2. Identify the seat category you want and whether it is available to select.
3. Add any selection charge to the fare, then read the ticket's change and refund rules.
4. Check the return and any European connecting segment separately.

Save the seat-category confirmation with the booking. Lufthansa's reservation terms explain that a reservation concerns a seat category rather than guaranteeing one seat number; equipment changes can affect the assignment. Read the applicable remedy before paying a large amount specifically for the seat.

What the historical business fares can tell you

The median premium compares Lufthansa with the lowest recorded business-search fare on each route where Lufthansa appeared. It is neither the median Lufthansa ticket price nor a measured Allegris surcharge. The competing itinerary can have different connections and a different seat. A low premium alone does not settle which journey you should buy.

Move to your own airport pair in the business route comparison tool. An observation where Lufthansa is lowest may include a tie; it does not show that Lufthansa was uniquely cheapest across every ticket available in the market. Missing observations also do not establish that an airline has no service.

For a specific alternative, use Lufthansa versus SWISS or Lufthansa versus Turkish. Those comparisons separate cabins and match the recorded route evidence. Subtracting the two airlines' network medians would compare different route samples and would not tell you the saving on your trip.

Price the connection as part of the purchase

If the trip ends at the nonstop arrival airport, compare the nonstop with a usable connecting alternative. If you need an onward flight, compare the complete journey to your final European destination: both segments, arrival time, connection length and ticket conditions.

Use the airline hub to find the relevant carrier guide, then compare the actual route results. A historical fare does not include a judgment about whether a particular transfer is convenient for you.

Avoid assigning a universal price to an hour saved. With limited vacation time, an earlier arrival may justify more cash. With flexible dates, a longer connection may preserve money for the trip. Keep the economy alternative in view if a lie-flat seat is desirable but not essential.

Cash and points need the same comparison

For an award, compare points plus taxes and fees with the cash itinerary you would realistically book. An expensive advertised Lufthansa fare can make a redemption look impressive without making it your best use of points. The points versus cash calculator helps keep that alternative explicit.

Confirm award availability for every passenger, the cabin on every segment and the rules before transferring points. An alliance relationship does not guarantee that the flight or seat you want is bookable through a particular program.
